Aquaculture

Aquaculture is an underutilized means of protein production. In the next 15 years, over half of fish for human consumption will come from the aquaculture industry with land-based aquaculture as the primary means of future growth. Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) is a technique for raising aquatic species in a closed, indoor, land-based system to minimize water consumption, provide maximum control of the fish’s environment, and reduce the risk of exposure to parasites, disease, and predators.

Workforce development is important to Emergent. We form partnerships with the communities where we grow, creating jobs and forming relationships with local businesses who can provide goods and services.

Whole Oceans

Whole Oceans is a Maine company on track to become America’s premier, land-based producer of sustainable farm-raised Atlantic Salmon. With construction beginning in 2019, we are building a state-of-the-art recirculating aquaculture system at the site of a former papermill in Bucksport, Maine. Once the facility is complete, it will be one of the largest land-based salmon facilities in the world and a champion for the local economy.
